MBA Fall Fest Recap Event Volunteers Needed Visit Philly FT Coffee Roasters  Library Director, Sandra Samuel, and MFT President, Ira Josephs, with one of our beautiful history bannersMedia Fair Trade Committee “Fair Traded” the Media LibraryThe Media Fair Trade Committee is all about educating shop owners, schools, churches, organizations and residents about the benefits of selling and buying Fair Trade certified products. It provides a great opportunity for all of us to help alleviate poverty and suffering around the world by purposely purchasing items that have Fair Trade certifications.Our local library is a place where folks come to learn all kinds of things. It’s perfect that they allowed us to install one of our educational banners there! In “Fair Trading” the library, we provided them with signage, brochures and some Fair Trade certified products that they can use in their break room or at events. They can see how good these are and our hope is that they will continue to purchase Fair Trade products when our provisions run out. Thanks for the opportunity Sandy and Media Library! Media Business Authority’s First Fall Fest  The Media Fair Trade Committee recently had a table at Media’s first Fall Festival. Our volunteer, Fred Shamlian, the Fair Trade banana, engaged community members in a thought provoking exercise to “Make a Fair Trade” for some of the items we brought. Dr Barbara Bole also talked with lots of folks, educating about Fair Trade, signing them up for our newsletter and as volunteers. Thanks so much to Fred and Barbara, and the Media Business Authority for giving us the opportunity! Once again Martindale’s Natural Market in Springfield donated Fair Trade bananas for us to give out. Thanks for the donation and for being one of the best sources of Fair Trade products in the region! Transition Town Media Green SundayOur next event is a craft fair just in time for the holidays on November 13 from 1 to 5 at the Media Providence Friends School. TTM promotes shopping locally, and small, for the health of our local community and the whole planet by reducing shipping environmental costs. Fair Trade products are mostly essential items not grown in the US like coffee, green and black tea, spices, cocoa, sugar, and bananas. Sometimes tomatos and avocados that can’t be grown in the US in winter are available in Fair Trade form from the Global South. We will be selling chocolate, tea and Senda soccer balls made in Fair Trade certified factories. We will also promote local Media businesses that sell Fair Trade items which you can find on our website “shopping” page. It is a really fun time, if you want to help us out for an hour or more, please reach out!  Visit With Philly Fair Trade Coffee RoastersOur sister fair trade committee in Philly is having a free event that sounds fantastic! It is an in person visit to long time supporters, Philly Fair Trade Coffee Roasters! Who doesn’t love the smell of freshly ground coffee beans, and how much better that is when you know the farmers got paid fairly for their beans, the employees were well treated, the environment was cared for, women had opportunities and important decisions for the farmer co-ops were made democratically. This free tour is Sunday November 6 from 11 to 12:30 at 171 Wyoming Avenue, Phila.Reserve a spot on Eventbrite.Join Us – Virtually!
