Media’s Mayor, Bob McMahon, juggling a Fair Trade soccer ball at Dining Under the Stars

The Media Fair Trade Committee is holding a 20th anniversary celebration of Media becoming the First Fair Trade Town in the Americas on Wednesday July 22 at Dining Under the Stars! We’ll be on State St at Jackson and we’ll be doing soccer ball juggling contests with prizes, using Senda Fair Trade soccer balls. Did you see the new Senda Fair Trade cleats at the World Cup?

There will also be other random prize giveaways, banana costumed characters you can get your picture with, product displays, and lots of educational materials! At 6 pm we will have an informal renewing of Media’s Fair Trade vows with Mayor Joi Washington and Council President, Mark Paikoff, and the original Fair Trade Resolution the council approved.

We also want to highlight how our modern Fair Trade Town Triangle, with Garstang England and New Koforidua, Ghana, is somewhat redemptive for the historical Atlantic Slave Trade Triangle that began to wind down 250 years ago! More on that later.

So ride your bike into town (or not) and try your hand (or feet) at soccer ball juggling and you might win a nice prize. You’ll certainly learn some things and have a fun time! If you have questions, email Ira at mediafairtrade@gmail.com
