On Thursday October 22 from 6 to 7:30, the Media Fair Trade Committee is hosting a free informal celebration of National Fair Trade Month. It will be at Media Mercantile 21 E State St which sells some products made in certified fair trade factories. Drop in for fair trade snacks and beverages, copies of Paul Rice’s new book, Every Purchase Matters, How Fair Trade Farmers, Companies, and Consumers are Changing the World, and our updated Media Fair Trade brochure. Paul is an award winning pioneer in the conscious capitalism movement and started the nonprofit, Fair Trade USA, that was one of the first third party certifiers. Fair Trade USA has morphed into Fair Trade Certified which is where Fair Trade Campaigns, a resource for prospective fair trade towns, schools and places of worship, now lives. The book is an intimate and compelling look at the history of fair trade from a first person perspective. So come in and meet other community members who share an interest in doing good in the world by simply choosing to shop ethically, spending your dollars where you can support local businesses and producers around the world.
